My taste in music is
best described as eccentric.
-
SteelEye Span - a British "fusion" group. They blend traditional Celtic
with more modern arrangements and intruments. They've been around for about
25 years, but not many folks in the US have ever heard of them, in spite
of the fact that they have a number of gold records in the UK
-
Clannad - a more traditional Irish/Celtic group. Their work has been heard
in "Last of the Mohicans", "Patriot Games", and an old VW commercial.
-
Leena McKennit - a fine vocalist. Her compositions are Celtic in flavor,
but not necessaritly in content.
-
Brother - a really odd band from down under. Does the phrase "rock bagpipe"
tell you anything? It's much better than you might think.
-
The Clancy Brothers - Irish "folk"
-
Tommy Makem - Irish "folk"
-
Jethro Tull - Rock
-
Jefferson Airplane (NOT Starship!) - this is from the 60's, mostly
-
J. S. Bach, especially his organ works
-
Handel
-
The Who - one of the definitive bands of my generation (pun intended!)
-
Pink Floyd
-
The Birds
-
Peter, Paul and Mary
-
Simon and Garfunkel
-
Tom Paxton - a somewhat more obscure American folk musician. He wrote "The
MArvelous Toy", which was popularized by Peter, Paul and Mary.
-
Pete Seeger &The Weavers (a group Seeger worked with in the 40's & 50's.
They were very unpopular with the McCarthy Commission on UnAmerican
Activities :-)
