Career Internship Database

The Career Center maintains a database for all of the internships that come into the university. This database is published on the Web, giving students easy access to the information. The data entry piece is written in Access and the Web piece was created using DbWeb.

Commencement

This system is used to support student graduation by tracking down degrees confirred and managing all graduation needs from diplomas to ceremony programs. There are many different kinds of reporting that are also associated with this system.

Degree Audit

This package was written by Ironsoft and provides advisors and studetns with a view of the requirements for completing a degree. Advisors have access to a windows interface that allows them to view and modify a student's degree requirements. Students have access to a web interface that allows them to view their progress toward completing a degree.

Students also have the option of selecting a different degree program and auditing their courses against the requirements for a new degree.

Electronic Grades

There are a variety of means of electronically submitting course grades. Faculty can FTP a file of student grades, update grades within SIS, or enter grades on a web screen. The grades are processed within minutes and a message is sent back to confirm the grades or to indicate errors. This process replaces the scanner sheets that have been used up until now.

Faculty Course Evaluation (FCE)

An application is available to CMU Faculty and Students for managing the Faculty Course Evaluation process and viewing the results of course evaluations. Faculty Course Evaluation data is available for the last 9 years and can be viewed according to course or instructor.

GREs

CMU receives diskettes from ETS for students who have requested that their scores be sent to us when they take the test. CMU tracks the history of your scores if you take the test more than once. This application allows the user to view the scores of an individual student.

Online Registration

After meeting with their advisors, students register themselves by entering their choices of courses and sections via this web based student registration system. They receive an immediate resonse as to whether they are in the course or if the course is closed. They can also choose to be placed on a waiting list for closed sections.

The college of Computer Science and the ECE department have been using this system as of Spring 1997, and we hope to make this system available to all students in the coming fall.

Student Information Query System (QSIS)

The Student Information Query System provides a graphical user interface for running queries against the student database. Users must have a copy of GQL on their desktops in order to run this application.

Resume Expert

Students can electronically submit thier resumes to employers using this application. Resume Expert also aids the Career Center in managing the interview process and maintaining information on prospective employers.

SIS Information Online

An outgrowth of the Enrollment Process Reengineering project, this web-based inquiry system is used by students to look up biographic and address data as well as schedules, grades and financial statements. All students have access to this application with a valid Andrew account.

University Information Systems (UIS)

CMU has a database that contains archived student information for students who attended CMU prior to 1989. The registrar's office uses this application to view the archived data.
